On June 11, St. Joseph’s Catholic School held it’s annual Golf Outing at the Cherry Valley Country Club in Garden City, NY. Stephen’s Fund was a major sponsor – contributing the programs and a Tee sign.  On June 10, Stephen’s Fund attended the St. Joseph School Graduation Breakfast and honored five 8th grade students for Citizenship & Character, Leadership, Christian Values and Community Service. All winners received $150 – $100 and a medal.  In addition, we recognized four students with Honorable Mention certificates and $25 gift cards to Barnes and Nobles.

Also in June, Stephen’s Fund granted awards to a total of eight high school seniors this June. Awards included two winners (one public high school senior and one private high school senior) of The Stephen K. Tompsett Award for Excellence in Math, Science or Technology. The private school winner will be attending Duke University and the public school winner will be continuing her STEM-related research. She was accepted to Harvard, Yale, Stamford, Princeton and Duke University Pratt School of Engineering. This Award is for $1500, a letter of commendation from the Trustees and a plaque engraved with “Strive to Exceed Expectations”.

Two public school seniors won the Stephen K. Tompsett Business Award. The Award includes $1000, a letter of commendation from the Trustees and a trophy engraved with “Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence”. One of the recipients will be attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

A public high school senior won The Stephen K. Tompsett Information Technology Award. The Award includes $1000, a letter of commendation from the Trustees and a trophy engraved with “Integrity, Quality, Continuous Improvement”. Our recipient will be attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science.

One public high school senior and one private high school senior received The Stephen K. Tompsett Achievement Award. Each received $1000, a letter of commendation and trophy engraved with “Integrity, Strength, Insight”.

Annually a high school senior from Emily’s high school, Our Lady of Mercy Academy is awarded The Stephen K. Tompsett Award for Overall Excellence. This Award includes $1500, a letter of commendation and a trophy engraved with “Kindness, Compassion, Leadership, Family, Faith, Academic Effort”. The recipient will attend Washington & Lee University.

In November 2011, The Trustees of The Stephen K. Tompsett Memorial Fund for Technology in Education established The Stephen K. Tompsett Memorial Scholarship to be granted to a State University of NY student who participates in the Student Teach in Australia Program. The scholarship is $1500, a plaque and letter of commendation form the Trustees. The first recipient is Mr. Tyler Brown of SUNY Potsdam. Tyler is currently student teaching in Queensland Australia and is blogging about his terrific experience! Good on Ya Tyler!
